So what are skins?» top

Skins are new so we get asked this question all the time. Are they covers? Do they clip on? What are they made of? So here's the boring but important bit. Essentially skins are like stickers but so much more (and better!).They are made of top quality adhesive vinyl material made by those clever people at 3M (who make post it notes) which stick on easily to your device. Each skin is cut to fit the exact contours of the specific device so they look like they're part of it. They also peel off easily without leaving any mess behind. What are skins made of?» top

Good question. Our skins are produced on 3M Controltac Plus graphic film which is a 100 micron white vinyl material with 'Comply Performance' adhesive. So what does that all mean? Well, Controltac films have a pressure activated adhesive which allows you to position and reposition the skin on your device when applied with light hand pressure. Then when you are ready to fix the skin in place, applying firm pressure bonds the adhesive to the device. Comply Performance Technology adds a unique characteristic to the film adhesive that enables you to apply it faster with very few air bubbles. These films have a network of microstructure air channels in the adhesive. The channels allow air to escape laterally beneath the film. An air bubble trapped beneath the film can be rubbed out easily. Pretty nifty stuff huh?

How to apply your skin» top

With a little bit of care, skins are easy to apply, and even easier to remove. Just follow the simple steps below and you can't go wrong.

1. Make sure your device is clean and dry
This helps your skin stick properly.

2. Carefully remove the skin from its backing
If your skin has more than one part to it, decide which part you are going to apply first.

3. Carefully place the skin onto your device
Line up the skin with the various controls and button openings and then GENTLY lay it on the device starting from the top, side or centre, whichever is easier for you. You can peel it off carefully and realign it until you are happy with the positioning. No need to hurry.

4. Firmly press the skin onto your device to bond it
When you're happy with the skin's position, firmly press the skin onto the device to bond it, starting in the centre and working to the edges. Gently ease out any air bubbles or wrinkles with your fingers.

Special tips for iPods™: we've designed our skins to ensure that the wheel controls work properly with the skin on. You'll notice that very thin strips are cut around the skins for the inner and outer wheels. Be sure to remove the strips before applying these parts of the skin.

We already skin a broad range of the most popular phones, games consoles, iPods™ and laptops, and we're expanding our range. If your device isn't included yet, please let us know. The quicker you do this, the quicker we'll design a skin for you.

Will my iPod™ still fit in its dock or case?» top

Yes! Your iPod™ will still fit perfectly in its dock. skins4things skins add almost zero bulk to your iPod™ and will therefore not interfere with docks, iTrip™ and most other accessories.

Are skins easy to put on and take off?» top

Very! With a little bit of care they are easy to put on. The special micro-channel technology allows you to smooth out any trapped air bubbles. See our application tips above. Skins can be easily removed by carefully peeling them away from the device. Once it's off you won't even know you had it on. But surely that means it's time to add a new one - your device looks naked unclothed!

Will the skin affect the device in any way?» top

No. Having a skin on your device does nothing to affect the correct functioning of your device in any way. In fact, skins can actually protect your device from everyday scuffs and scrapes, plus they can be easily removed without leaving a trace.

Can I use my skin more than once?» top

Generally, skins are designed for a single application. As our skins fit the unique contour of each device and are designed to stay on for a long time, removal can lead to slight stretching. So it might not look as great if you tried to reapply it. Why not try out a new design instead!
